Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday revealed that the explosive material intercepted in Georgia was intended for one of Tbilisi’s districts, calling the case alarming and urging the State Security Service to fully investigate the matter.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze expressed alarm over what he described as the "blatant attitude" of the Ukrainian authorities toward Georgia, calling it deeply troubling.
“When the Ukrainian authorities display such a blatant attitude toward our state, it is deeply concerning. This is extremely alarming. The remaining details must be investigated by the State Security Service”, Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the case had reached a critical stage, with case materials suggesting that the final destination of the explosives was a specific district in Tbilisi.
“When a specific figure in the case, a detained person, directly states that they received instructions from Ukraine’s Security Service, and when, at this stage, it emerges from the case materials that the final destination of this material was supposed to be one of Tbilisi’s districts, and so on, this raises even more questions about the case and the intentions behind it. The rest must be investigated by the Security Service”, he concluded.
Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday did not rule out the possible involvement of the domestic opposition in the attempt to smuggle the explosive substance “hexogen” from Ukraine into Georgia.
New information has surfaced regarding the case of transporting the explosive substance hexogen from Ukraine into Georgia.
At a special briefing held by the State Security Service of Georgia, officials stated that the explosives were handed over to the driver of a truck on Ukrainian territory by Ukraine’s security services.
The investigation is examining whether there are links between this case, the upcoming October 4 elections in Georgia, and plans announced by radical groups.
