Georgian Foreign Ministry: Georgia will consider rejoining EU dialogue formats once Brussels fully restores suspended dialogue

Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday released a statement regarding the postponement of the Georgia-EU human rights dialogue, saying that Georgia’s participation in future EU dialogue formats depends on Brussels fully resuming the suspended political dialogue.
“The human rights dialogue between Georgia and the European Union, scheduled for 21 November 2025 in Brussels in line with the agreement between the sides, was postponed by the EU just days before the meeting. Given that the EU suspended dialogue with Georgia at all levels following the Council conclusions of 27 June 2024, the Georgian side viewed this meeting as an opportunity for engagement, including on issues for which our society often hears criticism from Brussels”, the statement said.
“The Georgian side undertook significant preparatory work to ensure the EU received the necessary information on all agenda items. The composition of the Georgian delegation was determined accordingly, with the participation of relevant agencies”, the Ministry continued.
The statement further highlighted that unfortunately, despite Georgia’s efforts to hold the human rights dialogue, the EU side had postponed the meeting on entirely unacceptable and unjustifiable grounds.
“Using this issue for yet another round of speculation raises serious concerns and creates the impression that the European External Action Service lacked a genuine intention to hold the meeting and that Brussels is not ready to hear Georgia’s substantiated positions, including on matters used to justify the suspension of political dialogue with Georgia”, Foreign Ministry noted.
“Georgia remains committed to a constructive approach and believes that dialogue has no alternative in relations with partners. Accordingly, once the fully suspended dialogue is reinstated by Brussels, we will consider participating in various EU dialogue formats”, the statement concluded.
