The Georgian Parliament on Wednesday approved the establishment of the temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament to investigate activities of the former United National Movement regime and its officials between 2003 and 2012.

The resolution was passed with 83 votes in favour, the Georgian Parliament said.

The resolution was presented at the plenary session by Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body.

According to the resolution, the commission will have a mandate of three months. If it is unable to complete its work within this period, the mandate may be extended, but for no longer than six months, in accordance with parliamentary regulations.

“This was one of the main pre-election promises [of the ruling Georgian Dream party], and at least this is what the majority of the citizens, who once again entrusted the reins of this country to the responsible team called Georgian Dream, is expecting. I am sure that each of us is aware of the importance of the work of the said commission and its results for the healthy development of our country”, Kirtskhalia said.
