Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday called the latest European Parliament resolution the seventh “shameful” document adopted against Georgia, describing it as deeply regrettable and damaging to the credibility of European institutions in the country.
In his remarks regarding the resolution’s mention of potentially disconnecting Georgia from the SWIFT financial system, Kobakhidze condemned the move as a form of political blackmail.
“It is absolutely shameful to attempt to blackmail the Georgian people simply because the so-called collective United National Movement failed to return to power”, he noted.
The PM further highlighted that the resolution contributed to the discrediting of European institutions in Georgia.
“It’s no surprise that public trust in European structures has declined by around 20 percent, even according to European studies. When such disgraceful acts of blackmail are carried out against our citizens, this erosion of trust is inevitable”, Kobakhidze concluded.
