Georgian President praises citizens for rejecting violent Government overthrow

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Sunday lauded the Georgian people for their wisdom in rejecting attempts to violently change the Government, as demonstrated by their active participation in the local self-government elections, and called for a firm state response to such incidents.

In his remarks, Kavelashvili praised Georgians for their awareness and analytical approach, noting that their strong engagement in elections clearly shows their refusal to allow violent Government change.

“Yesterday, when I made my choice, I told the media that since the restoration of independence, our society has become very aware, conducts thorough analysis, and the wise Georgian people will not allow anyone to change the Government through violence. This is very clearly seen in the activity displayed in all elections”, Kavelashvili said.

The President expressed gratitude for citizens’ commitment, voiced confidence in Georgia’s future, and urged state bodies to take strict measures against those responsible for the unrest.

“Once again, I want to thank our citizens for this awareness. I believe in my people, in our country, and I am confident that all of this will be left in the past. The state will act. I ask all state institutions to be strict in response to such incidents”, he concluded.
