It is an honour for me to celebrate two significant milestones for our nations - Georgia’s Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of US independence, said on Thursday Tamar Taliashvili, Georgia’s Ambassador to the US.

In her address at an event dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day, Taliashvili noted that the Georgian Government highly appreciates the Independence Day congratulatory messages sent by President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Your Excellencies, dear friends, good evening. It is both a great honor and a pleasure to host you this evening. In Georgia, we have an old saying: ‘A guest is sent by God’. That is exactly how I feel tonight”, she said.

“It is an honour to celebrate two important milestones for our nations - Georgia’s Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. Let me emphasize that Georgia’s leadership - the President, the Prime Minister, and the Foreign Minister - highly values the Independence Day greetings extended by President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They fully share the messages conveyed in those greetings and believe that this year offers new opportunities to strengthen the friendship between the American and Georgian peoples, for the security, prosperity, and shared aspirations of our great nations”, the Ambassador continued.

She further added that there was something symbolic and spiritual about this year being historically significant for both countries.

“The United States is marking the 250th anniversary of its independence, while Georgia is celebrating the 1,700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as its state religion. On the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day, the Prime Minister highlighted the great legacy of His Holiness Patriarch Ilia II and reminded us of his timeless message: ‘God, Homeland, Human Being’”, Taliashvili said.

According to the Ambassador, this vision aligns with the values promoted by prominent American statesmen.

“President Ronald Reagan rightly observed that freedom flourishes where religion remains alive and God’s laws are respected. In other words, both countries share the same understanding: freedom cannot survive without a moral foundation, and a strong society is built on dignity and compassion”, she noted.

“Dear friends, I would also like to share some personal reflections that have developed during my service as ambassador”, the Ambassador added.

Taliashvili further highlighted that both of our countries possess a dynamic character and a unique ability to overcome challenges, never surrender in difficult times, and emerge stronger from adversity.

“Speaking of resilience, I cannot fail to mention the heroes among us whose presence in this room reminds us of the true cost of peace, freedom, and sovereignty. The United States and Georgia share a deep tradition of standing side by side in this regard. Their sacrifices remain one of the strongest pillars of our partnership”, she said.

In that spirit, we have dedicated an exhibition to them, showcasing the lives and achievements of Georgians in the United States who contribute greatly to the development of this remarkable country. Their stories remind us that Georgian-American ties are not only diplomatic and strategic but are also rooted in profound civilizational principles. With that in mind, let us continue working together for the peace, prosperity, and brighter future of our two nations and humanity as a whole”, Taliashvili concluded.
